Pet Costumes for Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner (end of the month actually!), so you might be interested in Halloween costumes for pets. Before you start going off to the stores to buy the Halloween costume for your dog, cat or other pets, take time to consider the following:

Safety for Pet Costumes
- whatever pet Halloween costumes you choose, you must take into account the safety and comfort of your pets.

Dog Halloween Costumes
- Dogs are reasonably well-behaved and could be fitted with most pet costumes made for dogs. For Halloween, your dog can simply be fitted with a paper warlock or witches hat.
- Do ensure that the hats do not restrict your dog’s breathing and sight. If the hats have bands or strings to tie them on, do ensure that it isn’t too tight or your dog’s breathing is not restricted.
- Fancy Halloween collars for dogs could be made from paper, plastic, leather or metal but do ensure it doesn’t restrict your dog’s breathing.
- Witches cloaks can also be fitter onto your dog but once again, safety first and if your dog feels uncomfortable – take it off!
- If you intend to put masks on your dog, once again make sure it doesn’t restrict your dog’s breathing and do take it off if your dog feels uncomfortable.
- Your dog can be dressed up as other characters other than witches or warlock for Halloween. You can find pet costumes for dogs at your local pet store or your local pet accessory store.

Cat Halloween Costumes
- Cats can be adorned with costumes made for cars but do avoid costumes with too many frills and trailing material as cats will play with them and may choke on the material if they decide to chew them.
- Cats can be fitted with Halloween collars made for cats.
- As with dogs, do ensure that your cat can breathe well with the costumes on, are comfortable and do not force your cat to wear a Halloween costume.

Mice and Hamster Halloween Costumes
- Mice and hamsters can be fitted with paper witch or warlock-hats but do ensure that the material are safe and non-toxic.

Important Facts to Consider in Choosing your Pet Halloween Costumes:
- Choose pet costumes made from non-toxic material.
- If you feel that your pet costume is unsuitable for your pet or it looks uncomfortable whilst wearing it or your pet starts acting strangely, do take the costume off your pet.
- Halloween is a happy occasion, so make your pet happy. Don’t force it to do anything it doesn’t want to.
