Should I Get Another Pet …

This is one question pet owners ask themselves after a while, once they have that FIRST pet. These are some things you need to consider before getting yourself another pet:

Type of Pet: Get a similar pet or a different type?
Decide whether you want to get another dog as a companion for your pooch or maybe you’d like a different type of pet instead, like a cat or a rabbit:

- some pets simply can’t live together: example: cats and hamsters/mice. Make sure you get a new pet that won’t eat or be eaten by your first pet.
- some pets like cats are territorial or solitary creatures. Male cats will fight a lot with other male cats.

Sex of Pet: Get a similar-gender pet or of different sexes?
Decide whether you want to get another pet of the same gender or find a companion for your lonely male rabbit:

- as mentioned above, some cats are territorial. Male cats will fight a lot with other male cats.
- if you have pets of different gender and decide to not neuter your pet, then you must be prepared when your female pet starts getting pregnant and gives birth.
- decide whether you want to spay your pets or not, before letting pets of different sexes stay together.

Number of new pets: One more pet or a couple more pets?
If you’re planning to just get a few more goldfish to add to the fishes you have in your aquarium, that’s fine. But if you already have a cat and am planning to get four more kittens, you need to take into account:

- the space in your home for your pets. If you have limited space, it’s unadvisable to get more pets. Make sure your cage / pet area is big enough for ALL your pets to live comfortably.
- your budget for your pets. More pets mean more expenses in terms of food, water, toys, accessories, vet bills, etc.
- time for your pets. Pets need time for love and care. If you can offer time for each and every one of your pets, then go for it.

So, once you’ve decided all that and can give the necessary time and care and attention to your current pet and the new pets to come, then you’ll be ready to get another pet to add to your family members. :)
